10 tips for saving drinking water

in #saving7 years ago

Water represents life, which is why we often insist that it is an essential resource for human health and life. Everyone's commitment to saving water therefore leads us to avoid waste and leaks. We are talking about the behavior that goes beyond saving on the cost of bills, making a real commitment to safeguarding our water resources.

Saving water is a common duty for the good of all. Let us see together how important it is to save water. There are countries around the world that have been living in this situation for a long time and whose inhabitants often literally pay with their lives not only for the scarcity of water resources, but above all for the serious sanitation consequences caused by the lack of drinking water.
The water emergency is an increasingly common problem that affects everyone. Italy boasts the most important primacy of being one of the countries in the world with more water resources. If we add to the fact that drinking water is guaranteed to be of high quality and safe in most of our territory, we can see the privileged role that we have in the eyes of many African children. However, Italy also has a negative record as one of the countries in the world where more water is consumed, often wasting this resource.

The per capita water consumption of 245 litres per day, according to Istat data published in March 2017, reflects in fact the great waste of a resource that, it is often said, is not infinite. We must be aware of this in order to learn to save water not so much from the point of view of spending less, but of respecting others and the environment. The water emergency is also beginning to affect our territory: just think of many Italian regions in the summer of 2017, a warning also from Nature, which seems to tell us that privileges must be maintained with commitment by everyone for the good of all.
A gift of nature, but not diamolo for granted. Are we so accustomed to opening a tap and using drinking water as we do not want to realize its real value? Do we believe that water consumption and meter reading are only the means to check the value of our bills and not just to monitor waste and losses? These questions are intended to make us reflect on a sad reality: it is generally not the amount of tap water that we drink that raises consumption, but the amount of tap water that we waste in other activities.
Although more and more Italians are slowly realizing that drinking water is of safe and quality, per capita water consumption reflects a very deep-rooted waste trend that is not justified by the daily needs of this "nutrient". Water in the twenty-first century has been defined as' blue gold', a precious and limited resource, now the resource that determines the wealth of nations: from this we can understand the need to adopt good practices for an informed use and consumption. It doesn't take long! Just stop 5 minutes and think about our daily life when we wash ourselves, clean the house or car and many other activities in which we do not realize that we waste water.

10 tips for consuming less water

Learning to change some of our daily behaviors can lead us to save water and reduce waste by means of small measures, respecting others and the environment and with a return in time not only of health but also of money. Here are the 10 useful tips to learn how to manage this important resource:

  1. Apply a flow reducer to the house taps: By enriching the jet with air, you save 4,000 litres of drinking water per year.

  2. Choose shower instead of bathroom: You'll save 1,200 litres of drinking water per year; filling the bathtub consumes four times more water than the shower.

  3. Keep the taps open only for as long as necessary: While washing your teeth, shampooing and soaping, we can close them and save 6,000 litres of water per year.

  4. Choose class A+ appliances: Reduce your energy and water consumption; used at full load will save you 10,000 litres of water per year.

  5. Wash dishes, fruit and vegetables in a bowl: You will save 6,000 litres of drinking water per year. To wash the dishes, remember that the cooking water of the pasta is an excellent degreaser that also allows a moderate use of detergents.

  6. Watering plants in the evening: The water evaporates more slowly and penetrates deeper into the soil.

  7. Install the "clever flush": One with two keys for two different water volumes, depending on your needs will save you 100 liters of water per day.

  8. Check periodically by closing all the taps: If there is a leak in the water meter, repair it immediately. Save about 4000 litres of water per year.

  9. When you go on holiday, close the central water tap: You will avoid unpleasant surprises due to possible breakdowns of the system.

  10. Respect the environment by collecting rainwater: You can use it to wash your car and water the plants.

In 5 minutes of reflection and 10 useful tips we have certainly identified many daily behaviors that encourage the waste of water but also useful solutions.
It may seem like a difficult task, but by committing everything you can, it is simply a matter of starting with 1 to get to 10 but they are important daily gestures that can make a difference for everyone.
