What does China say?

"We hope the United States will abandon its Cold War mentality, sincerely responsible for disarmament, properly understanding the intent and view of China's national defense and military objectives," the statement said.

Last year China condemned the development of Washington's defense strategy and urged the United States to abandon "outdated notions".

In the Pentagon's Nuclear Posture Review document, the United States accuses China of "developing its nuclear power" but China maintains its policy and states "will uphold peace efforts and encourage defensive national defense policies".

How did Russia react?

Russia's Foreign Minister accused the United States of pushing for war, saying it would take "necessary measures" to ensure the safety of Russian citizens.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov conveyed "deep disappointment" to this plan.

What exactly is the new US policy?
