[Steemit-Tip] Don't beg for votes

in #steemit7 years ago

Begging for votes . It’s something that has been a topic for quite a while now. Minnows do it and the rest hate it. Votes should be earned through hard work and good content. While there are valid points on both sides, there will always be a discussion on it. I’ll give my tips for it.

So why do minnows do it?

This one is clear and simple and everyone can relate to these points because everyone had the same problem.

  • You can write the best article but without followers and reputation your post will not get any attraction. So you have to ask for votes.
  • You have to build a network and vote 4 vote seem like a nice thing to do.
  • It gives you ‘hope’ that you earned something.

So why do others hate it?

Well new people tend to over do things. They are gonna spam you a lot in private messaging on Steemit chat or elsewhere. That can be quite frustrating if your upvote is worth a lot and people are begging for it. While the vote for vote is quite nice among all the really new people, don’t ask for it to seasoned people.

So let’s get started: Votes aren’t free!

It’s good to know that your vote is worth something and you can effectively vote 10 times a day. Because each vote is worth 2% voting power. You replenish 20% voting power everyday. If you up vote every single post that comes by, your vote will not be worth anything because your voting power is drained out. Even if your just new and your up vote is worth $0.01, you should use it effectively because it will grant you Curation rewards which is Steem Power.

Begging for votes diminishes your reputation amongst Steemians

While begging for votes has no technical disadvantage, it does hurt your reputation on Steemit Chat. People will think less about you. When you beg for votes 3 days in a row by someone that has a lot of Steem Power, he will ignore you now and in the future as well because they will remember you as a beggar. Instead make quality comments on their posts. Really read the article and say something meaningful. You might get an up vote for them without begging!

It’s all round annoying

It’s just annoying when people ask you for votes. Especially in private messaging. Just don’t do it and earn it like you should! You can promote your post on Steemit Chat, Minnowsupport and SteemitBC and just wait for the up votes to come. If your post is awesome, it will get the rewards it deserves!

... annoying beggars! If only they spent their time on putting out some good posts, they would achieve so much more!

Exactly that! Just spend a bit more time and it will be so much better!

All that aside can you please give me an upvote? :P

The thing is that the people begging for votes are generally the people that contribute the least quality to the Steemit community. That's the reason I never check their post at all. I rather discover good posts myself.

Good post! Steem on!

Agree! I generally do not upvote comments that begs for votes, or even list a URL in it that is not relevant. I think many Steemians with somewhat higher SP at their backs do behave similarly.

That's funny, we wrote a blog on the same day, from the same country, probably on the same hour on exactly the same subject.

Begging can be indeed very annoying.

Great post my friend
