A sunny autumn day in the lagoon, made even more sultry by the scirocco, a wind blowing from the South East, carrying humidity and heat from the African continent and raising the tide above the normal average level. Much of the city is submerged, but the Venetians, accustomed to the periodic event, put on their rubber boots and go on with their daily lives as usual.
Even the gentleman in the photo, heedless of the tide lapping the bench where he is sitting, reads the newspaper, perhaps waiting for lunchtime. At that point he will slip the newspaper under his arm and with careful steps, so as not to get salt water splashing on his trousers, he will walk home.

Una soleggiata giornata autunnale in laguna, resa ancora più afosa dallo scirocco, vento che soffia da SE trasportando dal continente africano umidità, calore ed innalzando la marea oltre il normale livello medio. Buona parte della città sommersa, ma comunque i veneziani, abituati al periodico evento, si infilano gli stivali di gomma e vivono la loro quotidianità come sempre.
Anche il signore ritratto nella foto, incurante la marea che lambisce la panca dove è seduto, legge il giornale, magari in attesa dell'ora di pranzo. A quel punto inforcherà il giornale sotto braccio e con misurati passi, per non alzare schizzi d'acqua salata sui pantaloni, si incamminerà verso casa
