The Power of Photoshop

in #photography8 years ago

The part I like is taking photos. Retouching in Photoshop not so much.
But I do fashion photography and retouching is a fact of life with this type of photography.
I do use pro retouchers... I know my ways around Photoshop but I don't have the time and the inclination to process my own photos.
Even if you do not process your photos, it is important to be aware of what can and cannot (or not easily) be done in post processing. This way when I visualize a photo, my brain automatically takes into account what could be done to the image out of the camera.

See the collage below. It is made of 3 versions of the same photo. The photo I took was the green one. This was taken in June in Central Park. Lighted with a ProFoto B1 Air 500 with a beauty dish. Then the retoucher did a funky version (blue - my fav) and an autumn-y one (yellow one, which ended up being published on a magazine).
I wasn't worried. I knew that this type of change is doable if the retoucher knows what he/she is doing.

Which version do you prefer? :)

Sort:

The blue hue definitely sets a mood to the photo, supported by the model's expression. Almost looks like a fantasy moonlit scene. The yellow doesn't give enough contrast to the model's skin.

I agree but the yellow was published for 2 reasons: in the alternative version (blue here) the dress was almost "lost" and we needed an autumn feel for the time of publication :)
