# 250 - Rowing

in #steemsilvergold6 years ago (edited)

Continuing the Modern Commemoratives Dollar series, we will present you today the 1996-D "Olympic Rowing" graded by PCGS MS70.

All coins of this series weight 26.73g with 90% silver purity. They were issued in Proof and Brilliant Uncirculated finish.

They will be presented in the order they were minted.

This coin was issued as part of an ambitious range of commemorative coins issued for the XXVI Olympiad Summer Games held in Atlanta, Georgia.

The obverse of the coin features four men rowing as designed by Bart Forbes.

The reverse features a design used in common for all of the 1996 Olympic Silver Dollars issued, a modernistic Olympic torch. The base of the torch is created with the number “100” representing the centennial and the Olympic logo.

A total of 16,258 coins were minted in Denver. The issue price was U$31.95. The actual price is around U$240.00 in this grade.

This series will continue very soon.

Another clean coin, with only the main motive on the obverse.

All the writings are mandatory by law, so it is a clear coin.

Wow, that's a really great example. Very nice one. Did you buy it at issue and get it graded?

No, all the coins in my collection are bought already graded. To buy at issue and send it to grade is too much gambling.

Very nice! Your coin collection is very impressive. Are you still in Canada, my friend @ronaldoavelino?

Hello, my friend! I am in Toronto and I will come back to Brazil at the beginning of December.

Great coin - a little tidbit - in 1936 the crew team from the University of Washington went to the Olympics in Berlin and won GOLD! There is a book called "The Boys in the Boat" chronicling their rise from unknowns to Olympic Champions.

Thanks for the info. I will look for this book.

Another pristine example! Such an amazing collection Rono 😎👍

Thank you, my friend. Remember that I was a collector before and now I am becoming a stacker...
