Translation Contribution to Open Source Financisto Project

Financisto is an Open-source personal finance manager app used on the Android.

Today, I contributed 128 Chinese simplified translation to this project. In the following screen shot, you can see my activity in their timeline page.

These are some of the texts in Simplified Chinese I suggested in the translation. It is mainly translating strings of words and not paragraph writing. You need to know a little bit of some technical words.

Updating the Translation in Simplified Chinese

This app was created 6 years ago. The owner, Dsolonenko updated file strings.xml with 125 new strings for translation in July 2017. Since then, different people had come in to update the translation of the different languages for this project. So when I saw that the Simplified Chinese had not yet been updated and that the translation was just 76% done, I decided to contribute my time and work to this project.

Finishing the Translation in Simplified Chinese to 100%

I clicked on the strings.xml and started updating the translation in simplified chinese. So I actually translated the 24% that needed to complete the translation to 100%

Two Rounds of 17 Pages of Translation To Do Inside the pages.

I'll just show you the first round of the 17 pages of translation that I did in the working place.

I translated all the strings of words from beginning of Page 1 and then continuing on to the end of Page 17 where the orange bullets turn all green.

At the end of Page 17, the box will pop up to say that the translation is complete and that my translation has reached the end of the file.

This marks the conclusion of the translation that the Chinese simplified version is completed.

There are quite a few more languages that need updating the translation.

It takes some time to get used to doing the translation but with time, your skill becomes more sharp from working on one project to the other. It can be quite daunting in the first try.
