Saint Nicholas Town of Myra, Turkey
Why this is called Saint Nicholas town?
Turkey believes that St Nicholas of Santa Claus lived in the Demre district here in the south west province of Antalya.
The present city Demre was built on the ruins of Myra.
It was believed that St Nicolas lived here in the 4th Century of Myra.
Many pilgrims come to Demre to visit the church of St Nicholas that is named after him.
Archaeologists have done excavations in the last 20 years on this St Nicholas church that have attracted thousands of tourists to come to this Santa Claus town.
