Germany Opens Its Roads For Self-Driving Cars

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Germany allowed its giant auto industry to develop and test self-driving cars on the country's roads, albeit under certain conditions. Under the law, behind the steering wheel of the stand-alone vehicle, there must always be a driver to take control in case of need.

Industry's leading innovator Tesla is paving the way for future of transportation and self-driving cars.

The new regulation allows companies to test cars on the road by allowing the driver to take his hands off the wheel and divert his eyes from the road to see something on the internet or check his mail while the car stops or moves around. The vehicle must still be fitted with a black box to record whether the driver has controlled the car at times of an accident. The driver will be responsible for all incidents during the trip, and the manufacturer - if there are defects in the self-driving system. Companies around the world are already actively working on prototypes for self-driving vehicles, but these cars are not expected to be available for the mass market before 2020.
