What is an Allergy

An Allergy is an Immune system reacts to a harmless Substance called Allergen. An allergy occurs when the Immune system sees a Harmless substance as a threat to the body, and this prompts it to release Chemicals to fight it, which leads to an Allergic symptoms like sneezing, Coughing, itches etc.

What are the most common types of allergies?

Some types of Allergies includes the following.

  • Food Allergy
    This type of Allergy occurs when the Immune reacts when some certain food is eaten.

  • Drug Allergy
    This type of Allergy occurs when the Immune system reacts to a particular kind of medication, thereby eliciting an Allergic response because it perceives that drug as a threat to the body. It is usually common with drugs like Sulfa drugs, Penicillin and Anesthetic.

  • Dust Allergy
    This type of Allergy occurs when the Immune system reacts when tiny particles in the air like Dust mites, Cockroach particles etc are inhaled.

  • Seasonal Allergy
    This type of Allergy is also called Hay Fever. It occurs when the Immune system reacts to Pollen from Trees, Grass, weed etc.

What are the three symptoms of allergies explain it.

  • Skin Symptoms
    This type of symptom is seen on the skin and they include itches, dry red patches, rashes.

  • Respiratory Symptoms
    This symptoms affects the respiratory system and they include the following Sneezing, Coughing, Shortness of breath.

  • Eye Symptoms
    This symptoms usually affects the eyes and they includes the following, Itches on the eye, swollen and red eyes etc.

How to prevent allergies?
  • Ensure that you stay in a clean environment regularly.

  • Avoid using strong Colognes and Deodorant.

  • Avoid exposing yourself to Allergens that triggers Allergies.

  • In case of serious Allergy, Immunotherapy should be considered.

  • Make use of medications like Decongestants, Nasal Corticosteroids etc.
