The gunshot sound that had made Sen. Henry go outside had also alerted men of the vigilante group that were on night patrol in the elite neighbourhood. They set out in the direction of the gunshot and arrived just in time to hear Sen. Henry trying to convince the assassins he was actually their employer. The only problem was that these were not his own gunmen but mercenaries who he had hired through his chief thug. The assassins did not know him and because they could not afford mistakes, shot Sen. Henry before the men of the vigilante group could take control of the situation.
The shot missed his heart by mere inches and Sen. Henry who was in the hospital, would be charged for murder on his recovery. The assassins had been overpowered by the men of the vigilante group with help from the cops who came moments after receiving a call from the guard that escaped.
The incumbent governor won the election and Professor Otagburuagu, implicated in the investigation, is still at large till present.
