Areca Palm is a perennial plant that can grow up to 6-7 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide. It can survive both in-door and out-door( which means it can be grown in partial and full sun exposure).
Types of Soil that it sprouts
It normally requires moist and well-drained soil with either Acidic or Neutral PH.
It's blooms in summer when a small, bright yellow but inconspicuous flowers are observed below the fronds.
How to Propagate Areca Palm
It is best to propagate Areca palm through root division. If you want to grow it from seed, it will take a longer-term process, which is not recommended for a home gardener.
Root division can be done at any time during the year but the plans will remain stronger during the spring
Steps on how to divide Areca palm using root division
- Carefully choose a mature plants with matured stems.
- Watering need to be done well a day before dividing to ensure roots are loosen up from soil.
- Remember to pat the sides of the container free up the rollball. Thereafter gently remove the plant from the pot.
- Rinse the soil from roots, to see the root that belong to each stem.
- Cut off 3 to 5 stems from the parents plant using a sharp knife.
- Carefully place the divided plant stem together in a pot with a two-one mixture of potting soil and coarse sand.
- Finally, place the pot in bright but indirect light and keep the soil moist(not soggy).
