Was out with my boy Ekene today, he returned from one of his many travels during the weekend.
Being the man he is he wasted no time in putting i and Chidi on to come share some bottles of happiness and exchange tales. So we met at our usual spot, the same spot from those days, sat at our favourite corner and drank what we've always drank. While we were chilling, laughing in between teeth-crushed goat meat, Adanne walked in escorted by a man; Ekene's Adanne o, not another one.

I was tipsy already but my semi-functional brain was still able to process what I just saw and decipher it's meaning, as if choreographed I and Chidi turned our face in unison to meet Ekene's.
"Nwanne, what happened?" we spoke together.
Ever his calm self, he filled his glass and downed the content in one long gulp, a sly smile cut across his face, I couldn't tell if he was trying to hide something or he was lost.

"Let she enjoy, when I'm ready I'll go for her, I'll get her back".

Clearly not the answer we expected our gaze didn't leave his stature and he knew he had to speak.

"My man nothing happened, nothing really" he paused for a moment then continued "I'm just doing my thing, she's doing hers when we are both done hopefully we'd find our way back together and do ours".
Another pause, as though a compilation of words beneath a veil were trying to figure out the particular order to come out which would best describe what the information he was trying to convey.
"You see ehn, there are some things that she expects of me which i honestly want to settle, but there are some other things i need to handle first and i don't want to waste her time, it's not a matter of love my heart is 100% hers but I don't know if she'll be patient, this life is not easy as I'm sure you've seen".
"She can be doing hers and I'll be here doing mine, and if fate is fair to us we will get together again.

I was overly confused, but it was Chidi who spoke "Ekene dilichukwu, I don't understand you o, this is Adanne o, your own Adanne o!"

It was mind puzzling, Ekene and Adanne grew up together and grew into each other. Their love had started in the sands where we all played together and blossomed as we grew into something bigger.
It was everybody's expectation that they would end up together, I'm sure even them thought they'd die together but just look.

She hadn't taken note of our presence the whole time till she and her new man friend were about to leave, walking out she turned around and looked in our corner, it used to be her favourite corner too, she was not prepared for the site she saw.

Once she was out of her shock, she smiled at I, then Chidi and stared emotionless at Ekene's frame flung across the seat he was sitting.
He was sank in, both arms over the armrests with his buttons opened till lower down his chest, a few seconds past before his face expanded into a defeated smile, the kind he had on at the beginning of the discussion.
