Clash of the financial Titans as Sun comes to a Buffet lunch that will give $4 million to the hungry

in #crypto5 years ago

In what could be the most expensive lunch in modern history, leading cryptocurrency legend and founder of Tron and Bittorrent, Justin Sun has won a lunch date with his nemesis in the mainstream Wall St. sector, Warren Buffet.

And the winner is...the poor

Justin Sun won the 20th annual charity eBay Power Lunch auction event, by putting in a record-breaking bid of $4,567,888 (notice the pattern in the numbers) to get a seat at the lunch table with billionaire Berkshire Hathaway head Warren Buffet. The proceeds of the auction go to the San Francisco non-profit GLIDE Foundation, which has been helping the poor and homeless in the Bay area for the past 50 years,

“BitTorrent and TRON’s US headquarters are in San Francisco, and bidding on this charity auction was a key priority for our team.”

Poverty increasing as the rich get richer

The recent increase in the wealth gap since the last financial recession of 2008 has led to a drastic rise in poverty, turning the inner city areas of numerous big American cities like San Francisco into streets full of homeless encampments. Sun has shed some rays of hope with his donation which will support essential programs to offer free meals, violence intervention, child care and early education for some of the most impoverished families.

This is a great PR move by Sun for the Tron Foundation, as well as an opportunity to facilitate trickle-down economics, in a sense, as well as uplifting his own neighborhood.

Buffet as one of the 1% that drove the collapse of 2008

Warren Buffet is one of the richest men in the world, thanks to his skill on Wall St, but it is the very same Wall St system that has led to the current widening wealth gap and increase destruction of the middle class in the world’s top economy. Years after the collapse of Lehmann Brothers and the crash of 2007/8, the economy has not fully recovered on the ground, despite Wall St. seeing constant profits for the top elite capitalists.

Trickle down economics is non-existent in the system that is skewed to favor the very rich, while crushing the most vulnerable in its wake.

Homelessness in the richest cities increasing

According the Federal statistics, the number of homeless people in the San Francisco Bay area has increased by 17% in one county and a massive 43% in another over the past two years alone, according to reports. Over 25 000 homeless people were counted one night in a survey done recently and remember that this is right next door to Silicon Valley, the center of the cyber world when it comes to leading tech startups and innovative business ventures.

The smartest and wealthiest people are living in the very same area where poverty is sky-rocketing.

Life on a planet with nowhere to call home

The real problem is affordable housing and this is not confined to San Francisco alone, but is prevalent throughout America and the developed world. It’s a symptom of the capitalist system, which has been hijacked by unscrupulous and exploitative giant corporations who favor their profits above the survival of the rest of humanity. People cannot go on living in their cars, even American Fords.

Something has to give way at some point, and perhaps Sun is rising to the occasion.

Will Sun bring Buffet on board?

While Buffet has been the face of the archetypal fat cat gorging himself at the buffet table while the poorest die in the streets outside his offices, he has simultaneously remained a staunch denier of cryptocurrency, once calling it “rat poison”. Usually you can’t teach such old dogs new tricks but Justin Sun is certainly willing to try. By going to the lunch he is presumably hoping to gain the ear of his fellow investor and perhaps show him the potentials behind cryptocurrency.

Blockchain but not Bitcoin

Fortunately, Buffet has come around to see the value of blockchain technology, much like the rest of the mainstream finance industry. Slowly but surely the leading economists and bankers are admitting that blockchain is obviously a progressive and revolutionary tool to assist them in their business. So it’s just one more step for Buffet and he’s on board with Bitcoin, and Justin Sun might just be the man on a mission to enlighten the octogenarian at the lunch table.

“I’m excited to talk to Warren Buffett about the promise of blockchain and to get valuable tips and insights from him about entrepreneurship and making bold bets on the future.”

Justin Sun

It could be a mutually beneficial meeting actually since Sun might learn a few investment lessons along the way too. Fortunately. he has the opportunity to bring seven other guests to the luncheon to be held in New York City, so between them they should be able to leave a positive impression on Buffet, with their combined knowledge and experience in the blockchain and crypto sector.

Is there a middle way?

This could be the great meeting of the ways, where opponents from the divergent sectors of the finance world – old and new – meet each other half way to come up with a happy union of the two, leading to a third option and ideally also a solution to the obvious social decay taking place on the streets all around them. Between them they have the power of the world in their hands, namely the money and the tech, so anything is possible.

Brilliant article. There's so much to take from this article. One issue I have with bringing these guys with capitalist mindset into crypto is the possibility of them hodling and dictating the market in pretty much the same way we don't like.

Thank you! Although none of us would like those kind of people in the cryptosphere they are already here. Guys like JP Morgan, Rotchilds and the likes are already here. I've heard somewhere, don't remember where, that Rotchilds are developing their own blockchain in the shadows.

Thank you so much for participating in the Partiko Delegation Plan Round 1! We really appreciate your support! As part of the delegation benefits, we just gave you a 3.00% upvote! Together, let’s change the world!

This is a brilliant article I must say.
My issue with getting people with capitalist mindset into crypto is the possibility of corrupting it.
