107 year old Kaweah Post Office

in #historic7 years ago (edited)

I have driven by this little Post Office a hundred times, but today was the first time I pulled over to check out the California historic landmark.

The Kaweah Post Office is smallest continually operating post office in the United States, and was a full service USPS Post Office until 2010.

The building is only 12 by 15 feet, and is manned by a volunteer who manages the PO boxes with daily mail service

The building received California historic landmark status back in 1948, and I was shocked to see most of the PO Boxes full of mail.

I'm @runridefly, and the boys were sound asleep in the car and missed out on all the excitement. Lol

That is so cute!

full of mail as a prop?

The residents of Kaweah still use the Post Office with a help of a volunteer.

Amazing antique archaeology... thanks for sharing about this hidden gem.

So much history! Thanks for sharing some really great pictures from days gone by, @runridefly

Good find and you can show the photos to the kids later :)

Let fate bring you down with people,
Ready for anything for you.
And let it be from evil, from meanness and lies
Keep true friends!

Amazing post office! Very old, but still good looking! It's great that their people still use this post office presently!
