"Summer", Giuseppe Arcimboldo

The work of Giuseppe Arcimboldo, a representative of Mannerism, is very unusual. He created portraits of contemporaries, but in a way that no one before him did. People's faces were miraculously composed, like mosaics, from various fruits, vegetables, flowers, bird feathers (and sometimes whole birds), fish, shells and other seafood, as well as other objects and their parts. All of them, for one reason or another, were associated by the artist with a specific image created. Every time he managed to give his "creation" a unique appearance and even reveal his character a little.

"Summer" is an example of such a metamorphic picture from the "Seasons" cycle, which symbolizes the development of human life. "Summer" is youth. On the canvas, bright colors are triumphant, the face is "lined" out of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
