👍👍WOODY HARRELSON & ED NORTON SHINE IN THIS UNDERRATED FLICK ABOUT LARRY FLINT (1996)
The People vs. Larry Flynt is another Milos Forman biopic starring Woody Harrelson as the self-titular celebrity and creator of Hustler magazine, who garners controversy everywhere he goes and is determined to call the system's bullshit wherever he sees fit. Courtney Love plays his stripper girlfriend and Edward Norton plays his lawyer. The film specifically deals with the Hustler v. Falwell case, which basically stated that parodies and satires were protected by free speech and the targets of such parodies and satires were not allowed to sue on the grounds of emotional distress. Other memorable subplots show people trying to outright ban Hustler from even being sold.
Milos Forman is a master at depicting relevant social issues and detailing peoples' lives, and though at times the truth is stretched, I personally judge a film by itself first, and its historical accuracy as a second. Censorship is at the core of this film, showing how hypocritical many people can get when they condone certain things that don't fit their standards and try to keep everybody from liking those things. The movie is generally a courtroom drama, but due to Harrelson and Norton's full-fledged involvement with their roles, the courtroom scenes never grow dull. Anybody who knows me knows I despise censorship; The People vs. Larry Flynt is a great film that explains exactly why I feel that way.
Great picture speak for itself
