Tomato cultivation.

in #farms6 years ago

The tomato is a plant that can be grown in all types of orchards. Seeds can be sown directly in the soil, pots or trays. When planting in pots or trays, the seedlings should be transplanted as long as they are approximately 15 cm high, however the most important thing is to have soil rich in nutrients (compost or animal manure of cow, horse, sheep, etc.). This plant requires exposure to the sun (at least 7 hours a day), that is, it needs the sun's rays to grow.

The tomato is one of vegetables that is never absent at home. It has a particular and unique flavor, which is why it is a main ingredient in salads. Nowadays, tomatoes are one of the most consumed vegetables worldwide. There are many varieties, small and large, red and yellow, round and pear-shaped. Among its main nutritional properties include that they have a high water content, low in carbohydrates and calories and rich contributions of fiber, vitamins and some minerals

Yesterday I was visiting the house of a friend. His patio is very large, with a variety of plants such as: cocoa, papaya, guava, medlar, also has some medicinal plants, but the one I liked the most was his small tomato crop. My friend tells me that every morning he cleans and irrigates his plants with abundant water to keep them in excellent condition.

The leaves of this plant are very sensitive to diseases and that is why it is very important not to wet their leaves. The most common pests and diseases are:

  1. Insects: The whitefly, the aphid. They cause the weakening of the whole panta and the falling of the flowers.

  2. Fungi: Ash and mildew. They cause gray or black spots.

  3. Bacteria: the chancre, scabies. It causes the appearance of pustules on stems and fruits, and the formation of necrotic spots on fruits.

To avoid these pests and diseases, the following is recommended:

  1. Inspect the soil frequently to control the level of pests and diseases.

  2. Disinfect the soil.

  3. Avoid excess water.

  4. Remove infected parts of the plant and weeds.

  5. Apply pesticides in moderation.

Having plants at home brings many benefits, one of them is that it gives us a very relaxing atmosphere, especially if we see that the plants grow and bloom.
