Skyline Rambling day 2: driving on the wrong side, plus old car issues

Perhaps one of the biggest questions I've been asked since owning the Skyline is, "how does it feel to be on the wrong side of the car?". Well to be honest, it feels much more normal than you'd expect. Yes, there was a week or so at the beginning where it was a super fun novelty, but after a while it's as normal as any other car I've driven. Honestly, the weirder part is when I get into my fiancee's car and have to adjust back to left-hand drive.

Normally, this question is followed by "I would think it's difficult to shift with your left hand". But no, it really isn't any harder than shifting with your right hand. Again, just a short time of enjoying the novelty. Sorry to disappoint, but the real novelty of the car isn't which side the steering wheel is on, or which hand is on the gear stick - the fun, just like any other good car, is in the driving experience.

The car is great fun to drive. A lot of times, when you think of a car that's almost 30 years old, you think of a rundown rust bucket that's no fun to drive. Not the case with the Skyline. Even in my naturally aspirated sedan, the rb20 engine has enough power to keep it fun, and gets you off the line at a stoplight quicker than most of the newer cars surrounding you. The straight 6 sounds amazing as you pull through redline, and the acceleration keeps up even as you get into higher gears. Handling is phenomenal - best out of any car I've ever owned (including even the awd Subaru I had a few years back). Curves are fun, and if you drop down a gear it's super easy to kick out the back end have a little more fun.

Speaking of handling - now we get to the less pleasant part of this ramble: I've lost the power steering belt. Turning is a BITCH right now, and parallel parking - like I have to do at my place every single day - is a chore. And the best part? Even for simple parts such as a PS belt, it's tough in the US to find a part number. Online, everyone wants to send you the part list for a GTR, and in shops they don't even have the Skyline in their computer (and why would they? It's was never produced here). That means I have to go through translated Japanese site, and order parts to be sent within - God only knows how long. Gotta love old cars (especially rare ones)!

That's the end of today's ramble - thanks for reading, if you like it send me a follow and an upvote, comment what you would like me to cover in future posts, and check back tomorrow for another installment of Skyline Rambling!

I hear you on the parts thing, I have to order EVERYTHING from Japan or the UK. The cars I own were never on the system. On another note, I've never driven LHD before. We only have RHD here :)

It's all LHD in the US, so I get a lot of attention just for that.
