Fertilizers provide the essential nutrients for plant growth, addressing soil nutrient deficiencies and promoting healthier crops. Pesticides, on the other hand, protect crops from the myriad threats posed by pesticides, diseases, and weeds. Fertilizer helps crops to grow fa, st especially when there is water on it; it helps crops like water leave, yam, maize, okra, etc., produce high-quality crops. Pesticides protect crops from insects, so the insects can't damage them.

However, materials science research on fertilizer has received little attention, especially in Africa. In this work, we present an overview of the use of fertilizer in Africa to date, and based on the overview, we suggest future research directions for material scientists.
