Almond blossom time and hives full of bees!
Around the beginning of February each year the almond blossom starts to fill the boughs of the trees with fabulous sweet smelling flowers.
It is also at this time a lorry of bees hives turns up - always at night - the first time I say the lorry arrive on the opposite hillside I couldn't imagine what they were up to but the following morning I saw all the hives they had left.
I hope this doesn't upset the bees too much to be shipped around the countryside for pollinating purposes. They are such sensitive creatures.
They stay for a few weeks - during which time my garden is super full of buzzy bodies too as well as the almond grove.
Then they come and take them all away agin - to another field somewhere else - maybe to peach trees or other fruit that needs pollinating.
It is a busy life for these bees. I wish them healthy and safe travels and will be pleased to see them again next year.
