Are School Uniforms Beneficial?

in #education7 years ago

Education is an important aspect of ones’ life. Without education, man cannot proceed in life. And in order to receive formal education he is to attend some school. It is compulsory in most schools that the children follow a specific dress code. That is most likely their uniforms. Every student owns the same uniform, only the boy’s uniform differs from the girls one.

The problem of compulsory School uniforms in public schools had received the attention of President Clinton in 1996, he addressed to the public that:

“If it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms.”

Arising Sense of Unity:

School uniform are presented to the students in order to teach them unity. They represent the fact that all of humanity stands equal, it does not matter if they are rich or poor, tall or short, as long as they are humans they stand together as humans. If uniforms were not introduced, the rich boys and girls would have been wearing their fancy and brand new clothes while the poor would become discourage and would feel a sense of inferiority that society does not intend to build.

As the famous Mustafa Kamal Ataturk said:

“It was when I entered the military preparatory school and put on its uniform, that a feeling of strength came to me, as if I had become master of my own destiny”.

Easy Mornings:

School uniforms have their own perks, the fact that one does not have to wake up every morning to think about what they have to wear. They can be assured that nobody is going to mock their clothing or that they do not become victims of bullying since all of them wear the same clothes. It becomes reassuring when one realizes that their fellows would be wearing the similar clothing.

Hidden Lessons behind Uniforms:

It teaches children not to judge others. People are quick to pass judgement about others. The way they look, and the clothes they wear, and thus wearing a uniform cuts down one of their things to back bite others with. It helps one understand that one should not start to underestimate others. It helps from preventing the creation of narcissist students who feel that they are being provided better resources than anyone else.

But even though the school uniforms are compulsory, the children have tried their best to alter some parts of the look or the way they carry their uniforms so that they may seem superior.. Girls still add some accessories to their clothing in order to stand out more. And some boys try to roll up their sleeves in order to look different from others and become the center of attention.

As Victoria Beckham said that:

“I have always loved fashion since I was a kid and customized my school uniforms”.

Economically Beneficial:

School uniforms are economically beneficial, they give one the realization that everyone is equal. Instead of changing clothes every day and wondering what to wear every night, one can have a sense of relief. If we take the example of a school in which there is no uniform policy. One can witness the rate of bullying higher than ever. The poor become victims of criticism. They cannot show their brilliance to the world. The children feel divided. The sense of harmony vanishes.

Conclusion:

In the end it is only right to say that having a uniform policy is beneficial for children. Even though the children might not notice it, but it actually prevents them from a lot of troubles. Parents and teachers should teach their children the benefits of wearing a uniform and make them love the uniforms they wear instead of making them feel that the uniform they wear is some sort of restriction on them. It is compulsory in order to make the children believe in the benefits of their uniforms and give them some courage and confidance.

As Bryn Thomas a school Head teacher said:

“High uniform standards are indicative of the high standards that we have at our school. Our uniform is part of our school identity, uniting our students and we hope that they take pride in wearing it”.

I used to go to a private school where we had to wear uniforms. It definitely took away the stress of having to figure out what outfit to pick for the day.
