Challenges within the New Education Curriculum of Bangladesh 2023-2024

Hello Steemit Community!

Today, I want to share the most important issues in the education sector of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh's education system is a mess, especially with this new curriculum at the advent of the 2023-2024 academic year. In theory, the government's addition of more activities and practical content in school textbooks is designed to make learning interesting. Reality is nevertheless different.

The major problem is that so many teachers are not prepared to teach this new curriculum. In talking to several students, I did not find any who grasped what was contained in these new books. An even more serious issue is their teachers' lack of clear explanation of such topics, which keeps students confused and angry.

Results show that this understanding gap has been causing day-by-day a wider knowledge gap among learners. Poor planning is the issue at play. The government initiated this new curriculum without first undertaking to provide proper training for the teachers of this curriculum. Even the best-designed curriculum will not benefit students if it lacks guidance.

The government should, therefore, arrange comprehensive training programs for teachers even before the introduction of a new curriculum. Teachers need to be much more aware of the content and also of the format of teaching so that an effective delivery can be ensured. Of late, however, a few steps have been in the right direction where new govt have started making corrections in the textbooks as per suggestions coming from the students and parents.

I am optimistic that this revised curriculum will be more practical and friendly for the students, bridging the gaps in learning to make education inclusive. A future of better-planned, better-trained, and better-content education in Bangladesh can indeed be ensured.
