Looking Above Mistakes

in #life4 years ago

You are not defined by your mistakes but by the way you respond and react to your mistakes. This is the reason it has been said that what happens to anyone is very minimal compared to their response to what happens. Some people's successes were leveraged on numerous mistakes but they refused to allow the mistakes to rob them of the ability to learn from them and they emerged victorious.

I'm sure many of us may have heard of KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). The brain behind the company (Colonel Harland Sanders) had a not-so-rosy story to tell. He was practically a failure: failed at numerous jobs, failed in the military, failed at marriage, and so many others till the later years of his life. In the midst of these failures, he discovered that there is one thing he knows how to do and that is to cook. He picked up the fragments of his seemingly failed life and started a small cookhouse and that was how KFC was birthed. Now KFC has become a global name.

Anytime you are to try something new, do not be scared of mistakes, cos you can learn something from them. Your mistake is never a failure until there is nothing you can learn from them. As long as you learnt something new from the mistakes, then you did not fail. Sometimes, perfection may be encapsulated in mistakes.

I remember a story that was told of a waitress that was working at the local restaurant. One day, as she was carry food to one of the customers, she missed her steps and the plate of soup flung off her hand and splashed on the wall and made a mess of it. The owner of the restaurant was pretty mad because the wall was newly painted.

Just there and then, an artist was eating in the same restaurant. He stood up, reached for his bags, brought out his tools and painted an amazing spectacle over the splashed wall. The painting was so ingenious and awesome that it attracted tourists into the restaurant. That was how the mistake of a waitress turned the once little restaurant into a class-five spectacle.

You see, there is always something good to draw from mistakes if you can look beyond them. Successful people are not those that are immune to mistake but people that welcome mistakes with open mind and leverage on them to be better.
