IAS dream
Literally little or no sleep, no social life, innumerable cups of coffee and of course the constant fear of the results is what an IAS aspirant goes through for several years of his life.

Graduates in India start preparing for their dream of joining the civil services very young in life. They distance themselves from outside world and make a world admists the books for themselves in their room. This is not the story of one, but every IAS aspirant.
The civil services exam being the toughest takes these young graduates years of preparation to qualify for the interview. Those who do cracks the exam are termed to be genius. The examination ends up being the dream of the aspirant as well as people surrounding the aspirant. I mean, who doesn't want to be known as parents of the IAS officer.
It is sad that not every one who prepared for the exam qualifies and what is heart twitching is that many of these heart broken aspirants end up taking extreme steps when their dreams are smashed.
One such story is of 31 year old IAS aspirant from Delhi who took the extreme decision of ending his life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan all because he couldn't clear the preliminary tests of the civil services examination. He wrote in his suice note addressed to his family that he was sorry for he couldn't make something meaningful of his life. Was IAS the only meaningful way to live a life? Why don't these youths understand that life is not that cheap. He is educated and could have done anything else to live a meaningful life. This is however not the isolated case, there are many more like this 31 year old who do the same after losing hope on their IAS dream.

@samysamy, things and life are changing St a fast pace..
Yes, civil services were the most lucrative job few years back... But, looks no more now..
Working with MNC's or working out of India has taken over the dreams of becoming a civil servant.
This is my personal view after hearing/reading.
