Time is running

My friend of 25 years called me yesterday to invite me for his sister's wedding. After the formal inviting and congratulating, I told him to get married ASAP. He had been pushing his own marriage for quite a while saying his sister should be the first to get married. I reminded him that he was done with being a good brother and now it was time he proves himself as a good husband.

Well, he explained to me that he wants to get married, but there are no girls who want to marry a self made, middle class, 32 year old guy. He said times have changed and he hardly gets to meet someone who understands his struggles and his rise. He says, arranged marriage meetings have become very monotonous and he now knows what question will he have to face and on what basis would he be rejected. He would either be rejected for being 32 year old, or not being that rich guy who wants around 17 LPA package, or sometimes both. It is sad that these educated girls don't understand that salary increases with experience and experience comes with age. My friend is worried that as his age is increasing, his chance of finding a wife is decreasing.

Girls these days are very ambitious and there is absolutely no harm in being that. But then, one should also consider the struggles that the man has been through. Living a lavish life if your dad has money is easy, but managing a decent lifestyle when you have been in extreme poverty is simply amazing.

I am very proud of my friend and hope he gets a simple and understanding wife who will help him grow.
