SAINT ENDREWS CROSS SPIDER, MY SPIDER COLLECTION SO FAR IN 4 MONTHS....
FEMALE SPIDER
This is the saint andrews cross spider, and its not hard to guess why its called that when you look at the patters on their webs and the way they immatate the pattern with there bodies as well.
Can you notice the female is much larger than the male below.
And her abdomen is striking with those parralel stripes.
BITE: They dont usually bite and if they do they are not dangerous to humans. There food consist of all sorts of insects that get caught in there web and that can be the size ratio of twice there size. In some instances they capture micro bats.
Do you notice how all of there patterns, shapes and colours are different, what are they designed for?
To attract insects of course..

You can notice the male is much smaller compared to the female ans his patterns are different too.

Good macros. Have each male different pattern, and how big are the spiders? Here in north norway it is not so many colorful spiders.
They grow to the size of 40mm and the patterns are different
Oh my goodness, they look huge! Very colourful too!! How come part of the web they spin it thicker in that pattern?
That is the x shape to help them blend in
