What is the loquat and what it eat
Few people know about this exotic fruit, although it has been popular in the Caucasus for many years.
In total there are about 30 varieties of this fruit tree.
Now, in the middle of May, the first fruits of the Caucasian medlar begin to ripen in Abkhazia. The Caucasian variety in color resembles the Japanese medlar, but the fruit shape is more elongated, resembles a pear. In the period of blooming on white flowers you can see a lot of red dots, this is a distinctive sign of the Caucasian variety.
Medlar fruits grow on trees up to 8 meters high, depending on the variety. They are all fairly branched with brown bark of different shades. Medlar leaves are drop-shaped and rather large in relation to the size of the fruit itself, the length of the leaves reaches 25 cm.
Medlar has many useful substances. The fruits contain vitamins, minerals, natural sugar (fructose, sucrose), as well as organic acids. By its chemical composition, this fruit is close to an apple. The calorie content of this fruit is 47 calories per 100 grams of fruit. Therefore, it is safe to say that the loquat is a dietary and very nutritious fruit.
The medlar is also good for the stomach, as it normalizes its work. Often medlar fruits are indicated for the treatment of diarrhea, bouts of vomiting and other immediate problems with the gastrointestinal tract.
