4 Life Lessons We Can Learn From Babies

in #life8 years ago

Life is like school. There are endless lessons to be learnt at every corner and not enough time. There are infinite number of things in life that can teach us something or the other. The same goes for inspiration. We can look up to really large things for those epiphanies of ours or to even the more little things.

Talking of little things, believe it or not even babies have something to teach us. They might not know anything on their own but their very actions can provide you with lessons that you would want to follow everyday in life.

So, lets dive in and check out what these beautiful little creatures can teach us that we seemingly can’t teach ourselves!

1. Awaken Your Sense of Wonder

We grown ups have become so accustomed to our clockwork lifestyle that we seldom stop to notice the awesomeness that happens around us all the time.

We are busy staring into screens all day or fussing over the delays in schedules. We are busy waking up early in the morning to reach work on time and then complaining about it on weekends.

The thing is, we have no sense or very little sense of wonder left. Probably because we perceive that they do not bring anything of value to our lives, and we couldn’t be more wrong.

Just look at a baby. Every single thing makes a baby wonder in amazement. The rain, the snow, the chirping of the birds, the way the sunlight dances around in a room or in the garden outside and a million other things. We should learn to do the same. A little appreciation of the nature goes a long way for our mental as well as physical health. It’s meditative and can be really soothing.

2. Live in the Present

The way the modern life works, we do a lot of worrying. And we do a lot if it because we are very much concerned about our future. Now, some planning and organising your footsteps to your goals is not bad at all. In fact it’s needed. But stressing over the future is something you’ll be better off without.

Also, more often than not, we look back at our lives and remember all the mistakes we have done or all the embarrassing things we have done or all the bad things that have happened to us, and in the process manage to relive those all over again.

You should really live in the present all things considered. Living life one day at a time as they say. Just look at babies. They don’t have a sense of the future or the past. They are just living in the now. Granted they don’t have to ‘deal’ with the realities of life, but we can include at least some of that in our lives, can’t we?

3. Looking Beyond Materialistic Things To Be Happy

Have you ever seen a baby laugh for absolutely no reason at all? Isn’t that laugh really heart warming. A baby’s laugh is the most genuine laugh there is. And you know what, it doesn’t take much for a baby to be happy.

Just give it anything to hold and it will wonder about it for a moment, and if it likes that thing, the baby will be really happy. That sounds so ridiculous and yet it has a deep meaning behind it.

The thing is, we have never been a more materialistic society. We find happiness and comfort in having all these ‘products’ that nothing else seems to make us happy. Well not entirely, but you get my point.

Even children are affected by this. Children of today have smartphones, video games, tablets and yet they are less happier than children a decade ago. They used to play outside and had almost no ‘techy gadgets’ and yet were the happiest bunch.

As a society we need to look beyond our lust for these materialistic objects as sources of happiness and reconnect with what is truly supposed to keep us happy.

4. Loving Unconditionally

Babies often hug you and kiss you and don’t care who is looking or where they are even how silly they might look. They just love you unconditionally. Such selfless love that is so pure and lacking in today’s world.

When a baby smiles at you and stops crying when you pick it up, when it falls asleep with its head on your shoulder, when it grabs your fingers with its hands, in those moments you realise what unconditional love is.

We ought to do that as well. We have way too much strings in our lives. Why can’t we show the same level of love and care as these little beings who probably do not even know the meaning of love and are yet masters of it!
