Do You Think Wars In Space Are Inevitable?

Human history is riddled with things, events and people that we as a race are not proud of. There have been wars, artificial famines, mass murders, conquests, dictators, nuclear bombings and so much more.

Truly, if you start reading about all the horrible stuff that people have done to each other throughout our history, you will form a really low opinion of ourselves as a species.

There is something about us that makes us keep fighting each other. You would think that the insane destruction during the second world war would open up humanity's eyes, but sadly, it didn't.

The fact of the matter is that we are on a path where we might even spread this love for conflict out into space, as we increasingly start expanding our presence outside the confines of our planet.

Wars In Space?

Today, I read a report which stated that the US had accused Russia of testing a military satellite that can fire projectiles at other satellites to destroy them.

We all know where this will lead to. Every country will obviously want to have their own military satellites up there in orbit to either protect their own satellites or to destroy their "enemy's" sattelites.

This is how conflicts begin. Due to the lack of trust between nations, everyone builds high tech capabilities that are capable of causing mass destruction. Once they are in place, it builds a state of tension where each country tries to leverage their capabilities to further their own agenda.

If things get out of hand, this causes wars. Space was supposed to be a place where we left our Earthly conflicts behind and worked as a single species to further humanity's knowledge. Now, we are on the cusp of polluting it with humanity's ever increasing love for wars.

This Time Magazine article says it best, "It is a historical truth, after all, that wherever humans have ventured, violence has followed."
