Neuralink To Usher In The Future of Brain and Machine Merger?
Neuralink has been in the news a lot in the past couple of years. Ever since they had their introduction event, the interest has been pretty high in the tech community.
One other reason for the hype is Elon Musk's regular teasing of how groundbreaking this tech is really going to be. It could LITERALLY merge the human brain with a digital interface that would allow us to have insane capabilities.
If you still don't know about it and are not convinced of what I just said, you should do some research on it. This could be the biggest thing to happen since the invention of the computer itself.
Just recently, Elon has teased yet another announcement that is going to come on August 28. He said that Neuralink will release an update to its implant which it had introduced last year.
A Sci-Fi Future
Up until now, we have only seen stuff like this in the movies. The idea is that an implant is planted in the brain of a person. That implant then gives them all sorts of digital capabilities. In essence, the person becomes a part computer and part human.
Neuralink is aiming to do something similar. This has been driven by Elon's belief that in the future AI might become a lot smarter than humans and might even turn against us.
In recent tweets, he said, "If you can’t beat em, join em. Neuralink mission statement." So, it's pretty clear what he aims to do. He wants to merge humans with computers or AI so that we can be on par with their exponential progress.
If they didn't already have a plantable device, we would all think that it is way into the future (like decades away). However, they already have something that can be implanted into a human being. They even have an autonomous robot that can do the implantation on its own! Also, the process is quick and it takes minutes to do it!
Now, all eyes are on the August 28 event to see what Neuralink has been cooking. Will human trials finally begin? We will know soon enough.
