Why We All Need To Stop Being Perpetual Time Travelers
We are all time travelers. No, not in the traditional sense of the phrase. Of course, we can't travel to the past or the future as they show in the movies. But there is another significant way we make trips to the past or the future.
I am talking about our minds. It is so natural for a human to think about all the events that happened in their lives in the past. It is also natural for them to imagine all the things that could happen in their future.
The human mind has this amazing capability to dwell in both these places. In a way, that helps us do a lot of things that we wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. Both the powers of memory and imagination serve us well.
However, when this becomes a perpetual cycle such that we start dwelling on the more negative side of the emotional spectrum, that is when we need to realize that it times to stop.
Don't Be A Perpetual Time Traveller
What usually happens, and I'm sure this has happened to you too, is that while thinking about the past, we tend to think more about the negative events and situations. This makes us sad and depressed.
And, when we are thinking about the future, we are usually trying to figure out how we will be able to make our lives better. We keep trying to know exactly how we will achieve our dreams or get out of the mess that we find ourselves in. This leads to anxiety.
So, both the trips cost us our mental peace. And that is just not worth it. That's because it hampers our ability to live well in the present moment. And the present moment is all that we have got.
What needs to happen is that we should practice mindfulness so that we can do the present task at hand to the best of our ability. If we keep repeating this day in and day out, we will end up creating a great future. This great future will become our present someday.
So, stop being a perpetual time traveler who is stuck in the two places that don't actually exist. Be mindful, practice meditation, or do anything else that can help your mind get affixed to the present. This is all that has ever existed or will exist. Embed this knowledge as a seed in your mind and it will grow a tree of peace and happiness for you.
But, according to law of attractive we need to imagine things we want in future. Right?
We definitely need to do that. But, most people worry about their future instead of actively imagine it in a positive way. That's what creates anxiety.
