Teacher's Blog 2 (Lending a Helping Hand): Conducting Remedial Class
One major problem most teachers face is how to help failing students. As much as possible we try to give remediation rather than giving them a failing grade.
For 4 consecutive days I haven't eaten lunch during my vacant time because I'm conducting remedial class. I intentionally use my lunch break for remedial class before my students go home after the first session. So if they go home, there is a tendency they won't come back.
I am handling grade 7 students. Six sections having 50+ students. Unfortunately the subject English is least learned. So in one section there are 10-15 student who did not meet the passing grade.
Instead of giving them 70 which is a failing grade I'm giving them a chance.. I gave series of remedial classes and the last part is the Job Interview. This is part of my lesson for the third grading.
Today I hired more than 30 students, although most of them really had a hard time answering my questions but the fact that they tried I gave them a chance.
This remediation's purpose is not only for compliance, but I am preparing them the life that awaits them after graduation.
I can't say if some of my students can go to college. But at least they are ready to face the world with the amount of knowledge they have acquired.
I'm gonna end this with a quote who for a very special teacher I know, My Mom.. A teacher takes a Hand, opens a Mind and touches a Heart.
Blessed Day Steemians!!
