DIY Furniture refinish project (SOLD for $130)

in #art8 years ago

So a little bit before I started posting on steemit, I started a business with my friend refurbishing/repurposing furninture to:

A) Be creative
B) Make some extra money.
C) Salvage furniture that would have been dumped or stayed ugly lol

We made an Instagram to kind of show the processes of how it was done, and got some decent response, but I wanted to share with you steemians!

This is the completed project we named "Lavender" for obvious reasons, and one of the first few completed.

"How did you do that??"

Well reader, I am glad you asked

Because I was going to show you anyway

  • To start, I found an ugly dresser for cheap a dresser with potential

  • (I had already ripped the ugly handles off of it at this point, forgive me)

  • Next was a light sanding of everything, and a base coat of Killz 3 in 1 paint.

  • The dresser had several layers of paint, and some serious stains inside the drawers.

  • I use Killz because it takes care of any odor, and makes sure the stains do not bleed through the paint.

  • After 1 layer of white on the drawers, I moved on to give them the color they needed
  • At the same time, I added an additional layer of white to the base of the dresser.

  • I use Rustoleum paint on everything, and have had nothing but great experiences with it.
  • It is oil based, which cures harder/ cleans easier.

  • Added some lavender drawer liners for that extra touch

Cool! Now I just need to do the stencil right??

How hard could it be??

REALLY FREAKING HARD APPARENTLY

  • Lets try spraypait NOPE... that bleeds way too much. REDO DRAWER
  • ok I will tape it in place and use normal paint NOPE, bleeding REDO DRAWER
  • OK INTERNET SAYS USE SPRAY ADHESIVE TO MAKE IT STICK SO IT WONT BLEED

REDO DRAWER

  • Ok... I used the right amount of adhesive... and slowly meticulously ... dabbed the paint on.... little.... by..... little....

OMG IT WORKED

  • I then added the drawer pulls that were spray painted (again with rustoleum spray paint)
  • To finish I waxed the top for extra protection.

This project sold for $130, and I bought the dresser for $20, materials were probably around $15. Made a nice profit, and had fun except for the stencil

Sort:

Likes very much...

Much #yunk was dropped from that dresser.

Really cool to see what you do outside of here 😉 Keep posting your projects, its always fun to get a more in depth look in to what all of us users do outside of here.

Up-Yunks 4 You

FUN FACT: buying the lavender scented drawer liners was probably the girliest purchase I've ever made

How did you feel asking for and purchasing those from the store?

Did your yunk shrink inside of you a little bit?

Love it @saywha you did a very very good job on this project. I can't wait till our house is built next spring to have space to do DIY projects. And nice profit too. Nicely done...
