The Power of Genuine Compliments: Enhancing Relationships, Workplace Dynamics, and Social Interactions

Compliments are great tools when used genuinely and respectfully at workplace, in relationships or at social gatherings.

According to Oxford dictionary:

Compliments are polite expression of praise or admiration.

In order words, when we compliments effectively, we build connections, create a positive impact and foster goodwill.

For the ladies

After seeing the word “compliment”, The first set of people that crossed my mind that loves compliments so much was “ladies”. It works on them all the time. For those guys crushing on ladies at their workplace, school or social gathering and finding it hard to strike up a conversation with a lady, compliments is always an ice breaker to start a conversation. You will see the lady blushing like a new born baby, if she likes you. Complimenting a lady can make her feel appreciated and will likely break her defenses, often leading to a more open and pleasant conversation.

As much as I said ladies loves compliments, you must know when to use it and make sure you are genuine and respectful about it. But please don’t try it with your female boss; you can never predict their mood, whether they are happy or sad. I tried complimenting my Human Resources manager, I got a query letter. So, if it’s not work-related, don’t compliment your female boss; you might not be lucky as me… Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

For the guys

Enough about the ladies, let’s look at “compliment”, from men’s angle this time around. The female lecturer who thought me sociology back in university will always advise the female folks that the best way to get anything from the male folks is by massaging their ego with compliments; it will make him feel valued.

I will definitely say, she wasn’t far from the truth because if you go to various social gatherings, you will see musicians singing praises and compliment to acknowledge achievements or status. For instance, traditional musicians at events often praise VIP guests to elicit positive responses. The guests become so excited that they deeps their hands into their pockets to bring out money to start spraying the musicians.

This musicians are so skilled at this that even you that’s a passers by, you will be tempted to take a peek of the person they are heaping all this praises upon. This particular event reminded me while God love praises and why he created angels and human beings specifically to praise him.

For workplace.

Moving away from the men’s angle now to workplace point of view. Have you noticed that when an employee receive compliments from their boss or colleagues, it doesn’t only motivate them, it also enhances their performance. They will try as much as possible not to perform below optimal levels. That’s the power of compliments.

While a pay raise is always appreciated, sometimes verbal recognition from boss in front of other colleagues, for that extra mile an employee went through just to deliver a good job can be really impactful and can create a positive work atmosphere.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Compliments, when used genuinely, will improve the overall dynamic in various aspects of life both in relationships, workplace and among men and women.
