The Best Budget Gaming Processor ($10 Used)

in #blog8 years ago

Where all the people talking about whether the best budget processor is Core i3 6100 Or Core i5 2500k, which is way above $100 price tag. I bring you the best price to performance processor, the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, which costs only $10(Used).

If this processor is paired with a decent graphics card like NVidia Gtx 750ti it can play some AAA titles games like BF1 and Rise of Tomb Raider. There would be a slight bottlenecking between the CPU and GPU but nothing to worry about because games like rise of tomb raider and BF1 are more graphically Intensive unless you’re trying to play “Star Wars Battlefront” which is more Cpu Intensive.

This Processor is more than 10 years old now and is still a beast for PC Gaming. The Whole Machine would cost around 250$ with 8gb ram and other components excluding Operating System. The Drawback of this processor is that it supports LGA Socket 775 which is pretty old and supports only DDR2 Ram and cannot be overclocked but if you can find a DDR3 Motherboard then it would be awesome.

PC Specs:

  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
  • NVidia Gtx 750ti 2Gb OC Edition
  • 8 Gb DDR 2 Ram
  • MSI Socket 775 Motherboard
  • 300w PSU
  • Windows 10 Pro

Benchmarks:

1.Counter Strike Global Offensive:

CS GO was tested on this device with 1080p resolution and Very High Settings with 8xMSAA. What can we expect even a potato PC can run this game. But we need more framerates for Multiplayer. This Game gives average of 100+ framerates on very high settings. But it also drops to minimum of 60-65 frames and maximum of 150 frames.

2.Battlefield 1:

BF 1 was tested on this device with 720p resolution and Lowest Settings. We get average of 30+ frames which I personally consider as playable because it is first person shooter game and this processor is about 10 years old. Frames Sometimes on heavy action drops down below 30 frames.

3.Overwatch:

Overwatch was tested on this device with 720p resolution and Ultra Settings. We get average of 50+ frames which is pretty good for PC. Frames sometimes drops below 50 on heavy action.

4.Fallout 4:

Fallout 4 was tested on this device with 1080p resolution and Ultra settings. We get above 40 frames on average and doesn’t drop below 30 frames.

5.Grand Theft Auto 5:

Grand Theft Auto 5 was tested on this device with 1080p resolution and High Settings. We get 50 frames on average and doesn’t drop below 40 frames.

6. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Witcher 3 was tested on this device with 720p resolution and Normal Settings. We get 40 frames on average and frames doesn’t
drop below 30.

Conclusion:

From the benchmarks we can conclude that this processor can perform better even in 2017 with only the price tag of $10(Used). I would say that this is the best processor in this price range as you’ve also seen it in the benchmarks that how well does it perform when paired with a decent graphics card. I would definitely recommend on buying this processor if you’re on a tight budget.
