Wood-Burned Art: Green Eyed Owl (Club100)steemCreated with Sketch.

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year

Had some personal things to deal with this weekend so I wasn't around as much as intended. Actually, I didn't really get any of my goals for Sunday accomplished. I'll just have to stay focused this week as I have a few things to get done that aren't making art. One thing I did finish up this weekend though was this new piece of art.

This was one of a bunch of sketches I made recently. Sometimes when I don't feel like working on a specific project I will just doodle. Those doodles become the seeds of a future project. I usually have many projects ongoing. I need to wait for inspiration to strike on occasion.

Like always, I start with the wood-burning to transfer my image to a slice of wood. In this piece, I made the owl I had drawn up first, then added a tree branch for him to sit on.

Everything is shaded and the pyrography portion is done! This is the part where most of my projects will linger for awhile as I will have many different ones in progress.

With fluid masking applied, I don't have to worry about bleed over when I watercolor the background. This works best with curved surfaces but is a lot trickier if you are trying to mask off sharp angles.

After allowing the watercolors some time to dry, I add the stars and constellations. At this point, once all of this is dry, I will pull the masking fluid to uncover the owl.

Finally, I used a special adhesive and some green foil to give this owl a beautiful emerald eye. I thought the green color added some nice contrast while still complimentary to the background of the art. I was pretty happy how this one came out.

That is lovely.
I must say I think the burnt drawing is beautiful by itself. No need for colors. On the other hand, you must follow what your artistic license.
By the way, the pencil drawing is great too.

Thanks. I like it without color but when you make a tons of these, a lack of color gets crazy monotonous. @jae5086 would yell at me (not literally) all the time, decrying the lack of color.

I understand. I took cannot draw or paint the same all the time. I like to mix it up.

Дуже гарно!
