Envying This Dude Right Here, Propel My Own Career Foward........

in #life6 years ago

As a Punky (Professional uncle no kids yet),a confident, always happy, successful, smart, & a sharp badt guy, i felt i have no reason to be envious of anybody. But, then i realise i was only lying to myself after i checked my self deep down.

hehehehe, seriously to some certain extent it seems natural that in careers, life, environment or anywhere in this days are competitive, so most times it happens that one turns little green with envy each time someone else reaches oe achieving a goal that you have been aiming towards yourself. But, while a bit of envy is anticipated, deep within me i tried to use every form of envy to boost my own motivation and reputation.

REASON WHY I ENVY THIS BUDDY

This buddy right here, his name is Kelvin we were both colleagues at my previous place of work sometime back, we use to be in the same department and a slight difference in job description. We just colleagues at the office but we not really close as friends after working hours everyone departs.

Anytime we are having team meeting, our supervisor most times compliment kelvin openly in front of other team members. I and kelvin are the most senior in our department but our supervisor hardly compliment me, all the praises and applauds goes to kelvin even it took the both of use efforts to get the job done. Always applauding kelvin like well done kelvin, kudos to kelvin for doing such a top-notch report before the deadline blah blah heheheh.... Trust me in most organisations, whenever someone in same level as you receives a recognition, it is only natural to feel a little envious of that persons success.

HOW IT PROPEL MY CAREER FORWARD

Initially, i always go head to head with kelvin as if it's a passive-aggressive kind of approach only to realise it will only breed tension, instead i resist the urge of jealousy and my next action is to get close to kelvin. Asking him questions whenever i'm feeling stuck, to be candid kelvin knows what it takes to get a job well done so ,rather than envying for that, i told my self why don't i learn from him.

From that moment we became friends and very close from that moment i learnt new things on how to execute stuffs and some blueprints on how he get things done... Not for so long i and kelvin path ways cos the company relocated, he travelled out of the country while i got a better offer somewhere. Getting to my new place and i applied most of those things kelvin taught me and i was nearly perfect in everything i do, if you read very well from the beginning you will see that this is a situation that previously wants to eat away my confidence that is now actually helping me to improve continuously.

This is me and kelvin still maintaining a cross-border relationship heheheheh.... In fact he always give the best treatment each time i visit Europe.

CONCLUSION:

I understand that sometimes some situation may warrant us to feel jealous most especially in our careers, instead strengthen a good relationship with your colleague or team mate to learn new things and put in your best to rise above and in the end,you will be much better off.

Thanks for reading through!

You are so fiiineeee

I admire your candidness. It takes courage to admit that someone does something better than us and for that reason we could get jealous. But with humility, we can always come down to learn from the person. Your humility and willingness to learn has paved a new way for you. Congrats bro on your new job @segunreus.

Thanks joyce... I celebrate you. Stay awesome.

I'm glad you did bro... stay awesome

Sometimes in life, when we are not appreciated after trying our best, we feel so sad and might end up envying the person who is being praised.

I love the fact that instead for you to bask in that, you decided to learn from him, and it has made you a better person.

Very true bro, you have spoken well let's cultivate the habit from learning good things from others...
