Desperation never ends well

I got home one day feeling so tired and exhausted only to find my friend waiting for me in my room. She looked all excited like she just won a lottery. I asked tiredly what was amidst and she showed me the ring. Wow... I was so speechless. I screamed and congratulated her even though I was tired. I asked her to wait while I freshen up so we could go celebrate. I even forgot to ask who the lucky guy was.

I headed straight to the bathroom and while in the bathroom, it clicked on my mind that she wasn't in any stable relationship that I knew of. Could it be that she was hiding things from me or she was seriously engaged to one of those unstable guys..? I kept contemplating till when I was out.

I didn't hesitate to ask her who the man is and for real, it was one of those boyfriends that usually call to nag forgetting their roles as boyfriends.

Seriously? Babe, this guy was serious? I knew she was in for shit and I tried talking to her. Instead of listening to me, she picked offense and left the house, calling me a "bad belle". I didn't mind though.

Even when she was in my room, the guy called her and ordered her to go change her relationship status on Facebook. She said she'll do it but the guy insisted she should do it right away and she obeyed.

She travelled back to her village the following week to inform her people and wedding plans started as soon as possible. My friend has always been desperate. So desperate that she was ready to marry anything in trousers. She wouldn't mind the consequences.

One evening, she came knocking on my door only for her to tell me that the guy in question has a wife. Like, she was deceived. This man used that engagement ring to get money from her, pretending to be investing for their future. Who does that?

This has also happened to one other person I know. Desperation has never ended well. She was desperate for marriage. She didn't want to graduate and then go back to her people. She wanted to build her own family. But desperation was never the answer.

I remember once that I was also a victim of desperation. I needed money badly and the devil used that to get to me. My classmate's account was hacked and used to for "get rich quick" advert. I thought my prayers were answered. But at the end of the day, the little I had was taken away from me.

Never should you accept things you ought not to have accepted because you're desperate. It doesn't end well. Let's live up to our expectations. Thank you for your audience!
