Chainsmokers- Sick Boy (studio album) 2018
Hello everyone, you are welcome to my steemit channel and I hope you all having great chritmas and holidays. It's time for a review of the second studio album by ED and pop duo the Chainsmokers that's right. They're already following up memories do not open a album that I regret listening to with their second album titled "Sick Boy". They trickled out singles over the course of the year releasing a song in every single month except for two.
Where do I even begin they made my worst list easily in 2017 with memories do not open a very bad album one that had very little in the terms of redeeming and then we get up to sick boy and we get that single in January of this year and I thought that was one of the best damn songs of the year. It totally caught me off guys, I was not prepared for that it's a pop song sure with some pop rock tendencies definitely some top inspirations and a lot of people accuse them of just totally straight-up ripping off 21 pilots. but everybody has to be inspired by something and what do we have a chain smokers that are inspired by horrible luke warm tropical pop EDM or would we rather than be inspired by 21 pilots. They continued rolling out singles throughout the year and while I felt like the first two were very strong "Sick Boy" and "You owe me" after that it was kind of hit or miss. I didn't hear every single one nor did I know that they were planning to compile this into an album. But that's exactly what they did and here we are where it's Sick Boy whereas their first album mainly contained tracks that were in the real of EDM electronic and I support pop music. I feel like the chainsmokers are taking some toddler steps forward here to evolve their sound a bit. I wouldn't call this revolutionary by any means, which is why I called it toddler steps. But still they're trending in a better direction. I don't know it's kind of nice that the chainsmokers seemingly jotted down some notes about what people said about their first record and at least tried to take it into account for like what they would create going forward. There's plenty of tracks that just feel dime-a-dozen, here do not get me wrong. I don't want to get into this and launch my review by saying that everything here is just perfect. Because that is far from the truth. What I am trying to say is that the duo put themselves out there and a different way and there's some different sounds, here ranging from EDM or dubstep II. Skrillex inspired stuff like "The nightmare" collaboration on save yourself or perhaps siren with the French producer as their I hope. I'm pronouncing my name correctly and then you've got some more stuff that you would expect from the chainsmokers more traditional type tracks like "Beach House". We'll get more into that one later and also another collaboration with their favorite person in the world apparently Emily warren on side effects up to this point. I would say that I've been pretty lenient on the chainsmokers for their sophomore album cycle. But I do have to talk about some negatives as well. Because God knows that there are some one of those problems lives in house and that is Andrew Taggert himself not only is he one halfof, the chainsmokers along side Alex Paul doing production everything like that playing some guitar on a few tracks. But you've also got him singing and his vocals are definitely not the worst thing out there. I feel like so many people really ride him about that point and I feel like some songs like "You owe me" and "Sick boy" are kind of tailor-made to him. But then there's other moments like oh my god everybody hates me where it's literally nails on a chalkboard bad & Veatch else.
I just have to wonder what went into his head he's talking about listening to "Beach House" and indie dream pop duo and then you make this song where you use lines like "paranoid cutie to describe someone consistency" is another huge issue for this record. It feels all over the place like are you wanting to do EDM are you wanting to do pop rock are you wanting to do a little bit more of a country EDM vibe like what is this "Maren Morris" and "Zedd", you're trying to cash in on that trend with this feeling with "Casey Ballerini". It just doesn't exactly make sense to me it's a collection of singles, it's a collection of ten songs and billing it as an album rather than just a playlist feels a bit off to me this feeling with country artist "Casey Ballerini" kicks off this album and I mentioned that collaboration between "Zedd" and "Mayer" and "Morris". which I think is an awful song. This one is actually pretty good it's an enjoyable kind of light medium tempo song that has a bit of urgency to it and as much as it does sound cheesy I kind of like the line that Casey sings where she said they tell me to and it just kind of makes me smile a little bit. Because it's cheap its cheesy but it's just kind of cute the acoustic guitars on the production suit the song well and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.
I mentioned that I didn't hear all of these songs before the album officially came out as a 10 song collection and there was probably five that I did hear. But among the five that I didn't we had save yourself featuring a fellow DJ nightmare and this definitely feels like it was inspired by "Skrillex" and like 2012 dubstep and being an unapologetic dubstep enthusiast myself. I absolutely enjoyed the hell out of this one feel free to clap back at me as I'm sure you will into ride dubstep is this over-the-top maniacal ride that you just weren't down for. But can we all agree that music in general is gotten so mid-tempo so fun interesting if somebody like the chainsmokers want to inject a little bit of sunshine in there into that darkness into that void that is mid-tempo just kind of sluggish pop music then so be it let it be the chainsmokers because they're doing it with songs like this and there's all so another one that I actually fully enjoyed here it does feature Emily wine and I feel like it's her best collaboration with them to date it's a song called side effects and it has a sunny disposition that.
I just can't get enough of it's funky it's fun and I keep coming back to it we all know that the win streak can last forever and it most certainly does not because the second song on this little album our collection here is titled beach house and we see Drew Taggart just rambling about his day his startup and then this oh darling of my drop that sounds like every other drop they had done up to this point and it just loops it plays it's there it exists and you're hearing the words that he's saying and it just feels so robotic it's like he's gathering lines that other people have written and is trying to relate it to himself and make it feel like a real scenario but it doesn't feel real it just sounds stupid siren with azar has a bad bass drop that sounds like a squawking bird that I just imagined like that spongebob meme playing after I will quickly mention one other highlight that sick boy had to offer that was hope with a singer that I had never heard of Wynonna oke because she's my Winona and on this one she actually does a good job of bringing a little bit more of a melancholic presence and the production just lays off a bit and lets her be the star of the show and I feel like that's what the chainsmokers have often been missing they are always trying to do something that's flashy er over-the-top or tropical or trendy or whatever and this song just cools the jets a little bit it does feel tropical in some senses but we get Wynonna in the spotlight and I really love that tasteful VOC coded section leading up to the chorus well I can't believe that I had that much to say about the chainsmokers.
But here we are at the end of the review, I hope you guys enjoyed it, if you did then please drop a upvote. let me know what do you think about the new album or the new collection should I say buy the chainsmokers do you see this as an improvement over their debut. because I most certainly do and I am going to rate this a length 3 out of 5 sound off any thoughts.

The kind of melancholia in the lyrics from Chainsmokers is the main motive because I like them. It's not so much as Marshmellow however, it's pretty good and with a amazing sampler and beats.
Thanks for sharing!
