What is lung cancer?
Lung cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells in the lungs grow uncontrollably, forming tumors and interfering with the normal functioning of the lungs, as well as potentially spreading to other parts of the body. We can get an idea about lung cancer by looking at various symptoms. If the symptoms of lung cancer are observed, treatment should be started immediately by consulting a specialist doctor.
What are the symptoms of lung cancer?
In the early stages, it is very difficult to identify the symptoms of lung cancer. Again, depending on the stage of the disease and the location of the lungs, the symptoms of lung cancer can change. When it gradually progresses towards cancer, its symptoms are observed. We can understand that it is a symptom of lung cancer by looking at some symptoms. For example: -
- Persistent cough that does not improve with time and creates a worse situation.
- In smokers, cough takes a permanent form.
- Often blood is present with cough. Or blood comes out with mucus.
- Difficulty breathing during cough
- Feeling pain or increasing pain during deep breathing, coughing, sneezing or laughing.
- Whistling sound while breathing,
- Loss of body weight despite unwillingness.
- Feeling unusually tired or weak
- Frequent bouts of pneumonia or bronchitis
- Swelling in the face and neck
- Excessive pain if the cancer spreads to different parts of the body
- By looking at all these symptoms, we can get an idea about lung cancer.
What are the causes of lung cancer?
Lung cancer occurs when lung cells undergo genetic changes and grow uncontrollably and form tumors. Several factors are responsible for this lung cancer. For example:-
- Cigarette or tobacco smoke contains thousands of chemicals, many of which are carcinogens or cancer-causing substances. Smoking damages the cells lining the lungs and leads to mutations.
- The more one is addicted to this tobacco or cigar, the greater the chance of developing this terrible disease.
- Naturally occurring radon gas enters the body from the soil and comes into contact with the lungs, increasing the risk of cancer.
- Long-term exposure to polluted air increases the risk of developing lung cancer.
- If lung cancer is present in family members, lung cancer can also develop there.
- If radiation therapy is taken, lung cancer can also develop there.
- There are some professions were working there can lead to lung cancer. For example, working in mines, working in manufacturing industries, etc.
- Unhealthy eating habits also often increase the risk of developing lung cancer.
What is the treatment for lung cancer?
When lung cancer occurs, it is necessary to take treatment as soon as possible. The treatments that we can take in such situations are:-
- If the tumor is in the early stage, we can remove the entire lung by surgery, we can remove a lobe of the lung
We can remove cancer cells with the help of radiation therapy. - We can use drugs to kill the cells through chemotherapy.
- Immunotherapy plays a special role in identifying cancer cells and increasing the immune system to prevent their attack.
