Into the Darkness We Charged

In search of LOL Surprise Dolls for my youngest. This has never happened to me before--one of my kids actually wants the most popular, already sold-out toy of the season. I got on Amazon, then Target.com, then Walmart.com, then ToyRUs.com, then Kohl's to find they were sold out everywhere but available in-store at Kohl's.

To the store I went, me and my anxiety and my middle daughter. On Black Friday. To Kohl's where they were also sold out of what I was looking for but did have a small display of leftover Series 2 LOL Little Sisters. I bought one as a stocking stuffer. My littlest daughter is five. She is a person of passion. She had her eye on a Baby Alive for TWO YEARS before she got it last Christmas.

Okay, we aren't the kind of family that buys all the things. We have what we need and more, but we do enjoy Christmas and try to make it merry. Which means we try to get our kids each the main gift on their list. If it can't happen, that's okay Christmas is about giving, not receiving. I truly feel that. Which is why I want to give what's wanted.

You caught me. I prefer to make or purchase handmade and local gifts. I detest mass-produced commercial toys. But I'm still willing to buy that one item if it fills a heart with glee. Especially a wee lassie's heart. A wee lassie missing her two front teeth.

It's also how I know even if my sweetie doesn't get the first gift on her list, she will be joyful anyway, and probably ask for it again next year, and the year after, and the year after, until she gets it.

To me, that is patience and a clarity of mind. I like it.
