Learning JavaScrip, Preparing For School, Posting On Steemit

in #steemit9 years ago

Hello, all.

It's been a while, I know. That's because I've been really busy learning HTML/CSS/JavaScript in preperation for my first foray back to school in a looooong time.

Code Fellows 101

I just got back from competing the Code 101: Intro to Software Development & Careers in Tech course at Code Fellows.

It was a one day course that lasted for 12 hours and consisted of learning about the software development industry in general and learning enough about HTML/CSS to construct a simple website.

From this class I learned that I actually would like a career as a software developer: code is fascinating, and working with it is an emotional experience; code constantly tests your character and limitations as a human being.

At this point, the problem is not "do I want to do this?", it's "how can I make this happen?".

JavaScript

JS is the language of choice for beginning developers, and fluency in it is what the Code Fellows 201 and 301 courses are designed to teach.

So far I have completed the Introduction to JavaScript program at Khan Academy, and right now I'm doing the Learn JavaScript program at Codecademy.

Both of those programs are free, and I recommend anyone interested in this stuff check them out because you'll learn a lot.

I'm hoping that this will be enough to get me off to a good start and have me prepared enough for the CodeFellows 201 course.

Steemit

I still like this platform.

The reason why I haven't been posting much at all lately is because I've been doing all of this studying and trying to set myself up for this program, which is across the State from where I live. So it's stressful. Finding time to post to Steemit has been a struggle.

Because of the crypto market lately combined with the implementation of HF19, things have gotten sad here lately. That's unfortunate because Steemit really is the future of social media, in my opinion.

I hope that I'll be able to find a job quickly after this class, but if there's a lull in the job-search you will likely see me trying to develop some new tools for Steemit.

What Tools Would You Like To See On Steemit?

I'm curious if there's anything that you've thought Steemit could use that would really improve your experience of the site.

If it's something I can manage with the skills I'm going to learn, I'd like to try making something for the community.

So tell me what you think would be one of the most interesting or useful things you'd like to see on Steemit.

Keep your head up! I upvoted and resteemed this.

Where have you been? I was starting to think bad things were happening...LOL
Looks like I was right. (school)

Yeah... I'm not scared of the school work at all -- only how to pay for it.

As an added note: my autocorrect just changed "only" to "orly"

Can you separate my authored posts from my resteems>... that would be cool.

Interesting!!
