Love answered with nothing

There in the gloom he saw the obscure form of a woman
She was an unlit flame in the darkness of the stone room
A light perfume filled the air with the fragrance of a glade long past
The reminiscence of those days filled him with deep longing
His starving heart had sparked a hope
He stretched out his hand to touch the visage blanketed in shadow
But he grasped at emptiness, and despair filled him
That familiar figure was engraved in the man's eyes
Her memory drove him into anguish
Driving the burning nails deeper into his chest
He crashed to his knees and broke into lamentations
Where are you my morning and evening star?
My beautiful rose where have you gone?"
But surely, the void had no answer
and silence killed the flame
