Kakaako: Hawaii's Hidden Mural District! [57 Photos]

in #urbanexploration6 years ago (edited)

If you ever travel to the island of Oahu in Hawaii, there's a big chance that you'll miss out on a unique adventure. Between Ala Moana and Chinatown, there is a warehouse district that you will pass by. If you enter it though, you will find an entire district covered in art from all over the world.

I originally got the idea to explore it fully after reading about @karensuestudios trip to Portland with @teamsteem. What I thought would be a half hour of sight seeing however, became a few hours of urban exploration! It seems like there isn't much to look at when you first appoach this area, but don't be fooled. There were many times that I thought "I saw everything", only to be surprised while turning a corner or walking into an alley.

One of the reasons why I took photos of everything I saw today, was because the artworks change frequently. If you enjoy art and photography, this is a place you should visit!

Thank you @bollutech for this art!

So I figured I'd add some down here. I feel like he really helped pioneer the graffiti movement out there. He teaches an art class out there and everything. beak.jpg

The Rest of these are from the same ward area.

The Bottom one of beaks is from like 2008.
Unfortunately I ended up losing it when I moved... :'(
His most memorable early work that always made me laugh was his bird feet crossing the road but then there were never any on the other side.

These are a great set! I really like the first and second one :3

I am a fan of street art and these are amazing. Totally not something I thought about in Hawaii.

I realized a lot people outside of the island probably don't know about this area. I'm glad you enjoyed 💖

They are definitely pioneers of their time.

WOWWWW these are amazing! Have you ever heard of All Public Art??
It would be great to see these on there, and it would help more people find these treasures! :) #allpublicart
