Clams
- Are one of the protectors and keepers of our waters. They are endangered species. They can weigh as much as 200 kg (440 lbs) and measure as much as (47 in) across.They have an avearge life span of 100 years when grown in the wild. In the Philippines, they are illegal for trade purposes.
8 species of Giant Clams or Taklobo (Tagalog), can be found in Philippines in Bolinao
They Help the water by:
- They are filter feeders
- They clean the water and preserve nutrients
- They provide foods and shelter to fish and habitat for other living organisms
- They help to cultivate the water
- They help the coral reef structure

Giant Clam Culture:
They induce giant clam that are 8 - 10 years old to release sperms and eggs then gathered it in bringing it to BML for hatching. they are being put to larval tanks and after 8 days, they shift to the settlement tanks. they take care of them for few months till they grow about 5 cm. then bringing back to the ocean nursery.
