I would like to share with you all how I spent my Thursday (yesterday)
It was such an eventful day and I believe it may get you enthused ..

There has always been perennial floods in one of the Western towns of Upper East region of Ghana called Sandema . I lived in this community for 14 months and very conversant with the perineal flooding issues and had always wanted to help in any capacity as possible.

Fortunately,a friend of mine who happens to be a philanthropist arrived from the UAE and decided to visit me upon my request .His name is Mallam Fahad and is a very great friend from childhood,in fact a Quran Hafiz (committed the whole Holy book into memory) .

As usual there was flooding in some parts of Sandema across the road where there is a bridge over a stream and the rain waters had caused an overflow preventing movement of people into main town of Sandema and cutting off neighboring communities like Navrongo and so on.
People could not go to Sandema market despite the day being a market day which will as expected cause immediate hardships...

We then visited the communities affected and extended some support to them as well as liasing with the regional team of Nadmo to find a lasting solution to the problem...

As we near Sandema ,we moved unto a rough road from Chuchuliga to Sandema,a distance of about 15 Km

Meet my colleague and dear friend Mallam Fahad

Behind him are a group of mahogany tree-canopies at either sides of the road from the outskirts of Sandema till you reach the main town..

Now these trees have been cited by experts as the cause of the perineal flooding situation as they trap running rain water , and have thus been expected to be cut down..
Other civil society organizations have also advocated for alternative solutions in order to save the trees

Soon we were at the flooded point of the road

You can hardly see the road
The whole road has been taken by flood
And community members were seen on the roads not knowing how to cross to the other side ..

We left the community well fulfilled but some more follow ups needs to be done with the Nadmo (National Disaster Management Organization) to permanently resolve the annual ritual

We took time on our way back to enjoy the natural environment

We also visited the Tono dam
An artificial dam created around the area to ensure all year round farming acitivities...

We really had a great and fruitful time out there ...
