Do You Freewrite?
A writer I follow recommends freewriting.
Her name is Angela Booth, and she writes fiction, nonfiction, and copywriting. These are three seemingly different areas of writing with much in comment.
Whether she writes one or the other, she starts out by freewriting, she says.
She said that it might seem like a waste of time to spend fifteen minutes freewriting first, before attacking a task. But in her experience, she saved a lot of time while doing the task.
If she didn't freewrite first, the task would take much more than fifteen minutes longer to perform.
She's written daily for many years, so she should know.
Still, I cannot get into the habit of freewriting. I go right to the writing task at hand.
... Or perhaps I don't.
Now that I think about it, I always turn ideas around in my head before I sit down to write. So perhaps I'm doing my freewriting mentally?
What do you think? Do you freewrite? Or just consider what you're going to write and then sit down to write it?
I love a good free write! Sometimes I do it when I'm stressed - it works very well. I've had quite a few of my favorite poems birthed out of freewrites ;-) good luck!
That's awesome that it helps you to fight stress, @amariespeaks, and that you came up with poems doing freewrites :)
Is freewriting writing like you’re having a conversation? Or is it just writing a draft of your posts?
I usually just open a post and start writing the body how I like and then look for edits later before adding all the extra stuff like graphics logo etc.
@remelsy, you just inspired me to a new post where I explain what I mean by "freewriting" :) Thank you.
You can find it here: https://steemit.com/writing/@sindore/what-is-freewriting
😮 thanks I am definitely going to check it out
I'm willing to try it!
Awesome, @custone, go ahead. I'll write more about freewriting in another post.
I haven't tried freewriting. I do know of Angela Booth though, and that she is a successful writer. I want to try getting back into writing fiction soon, and I think I'll give freewriting a try then!!
You should do that, @keciah - what's your motivation for writing fiction, and where are you right now? You mention "getting back" so how far did you get earlier?
