It is a sign of the times. In the 80's and 90's those into tech staid home because that is where the tech often was (or at a friends house). Cell phones slowly became more powerful and capable to the point today that they represent the ability to do more than anyone probably imagined.
I agree, the whole sitting at a party where you are supposed to be enjoying the company of others but instead sit on your cell phone, is a little disheartening. Especially when there is a good chance that more than a handful of those people are texting each other or reading the social media updates of others at that party.
It is technology. We either accept it or get left behind.
Well it's part the technology and the other part is, how the youth have learnd to use the technology. I tried to do that with my children, and communicate a lot with them, and show them on the same time the benefit of technology. To make sure that technology is there for them, and not that they are for the technology.
I see that a lot these days, that parents give kids ipads and then leave them in a corner. To me that is just wrong, because those kids will be the one with a cell phone in there hands, i dont want our children to be like that. So we bring them into nature, and almost enforce them different ways like we used to do.Im also a 80 kid and everyday i was outside, but i dont see that in this generation.
I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” - Albert Einstein
Definitely has a lot to do with how they are raised. Totally agree.
I also find it sad when parents give their toddler an iPad and then walk around the store on their own device, completely ignoring the kid. It is quite sad.
We need to find a median for technology and interaction with others before we lose part of what makes us human.
What im doing now is offering technology as a price, they need to do something else first!
And it works, they both dont have the need to be busy on a ipad. I once got the phone of my daughter for 6 months! I threw away her ipad broken on the floor!! Just like that. I said Change or you get nothing!! lol But hey it worked haha.
Yeah i feel you, some parents are really something. And then when kids get older and do something stupid, they will say... i dont know what we did wrong, we gave them everything!! Nope not everything, they need teachings to be a human being! Thats missing in our society!
Well, I'm 72 and not in the greatest health... Nobody lives forever. I probably have 2-3 years left and although my life may not have been great- it was a life. This is just a test to determine where you spend eternity... like Jim Morrison said: Nobody makes it out alive!
At the end of the day, it's not the destination what's important, it's the journey! And it's sad to hear that your health is not good, because 72 is still young. I lost my father-in-law when he was 83, and my mother-in-law last summer was 76. The 70s is a critical age, it can go every direction, but indeed it's important to be prepared.
And i tried to put myself in your shoe, for trying to think what you might think in that situation. But it looks like i would only think of one thing i guess, and that would be what will happen after death. I think i would be curious, i don't know its difficult.
Are you certain there is no way to get a better health?
I'm just old. Some people live carefully and try to stay alive for a long time... others (like me) live balls to the wall... I want to slide into the Pearly gates and say "Damn that was one hell of a ride!" I'm ready.
Hehe well said, that's also what i want to say, when i feel my time is here. Now im 40 and got a son of 8 and a daughter of 15, and im in the middle of my life, if we assume around 70/80 is the end. But i always lived in a way, what i thought was best, and i never regret of anything. I think this i just the best way to live.
But if it's just that, then could consider the Buddhist way of living. I don't know of you are familiar with that?
Buddhism is fine for Buddhists. I'll stick with Catholicism (real Catholicism not the Vatican II demon sect)We follow the teachings of Christ. Do unto others (a similar precept exists in Buddhism only in the negative "Do not do unto others...") I've spent a good time studying the world's religion. There's a quote from Ramakrishna I like "Religions are merely paths to God, be careful not to confuse the path with the destination... People should follow the religion of their ancestors- Christians, the way of Christ- Buddhists, the teachings of the Buddha and we Hindus the teachings of the Aryans" (I paraphrase)
Once you have children the world really changes no? I Have 4 by my wife, a son from a girlfriend after Vietnam (I haven't seen since he was 2- she disappeared) 4 step daughters 15 grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren... Around here I'm known as "Poppi Rich" lol.
That's correct, but if our generation goes in this speed, then we get world sheeps instead of world leaders. A leader knows the way and show that to others, and that way must be experienced in life. But the way it goes on this moment, is life passing by our youth because they focus to much on there smart phone.

Teaches them actions have consequences as well. Kids today need to interact with other kids more than ever, as well as nature itself.
Sad truth!
Nowadays at teenage parties, are everyone sitting on there smartphone!!
I got a 15 year old daughter, it's insane!!
I'm almost glad I'll be dead soon (but I despair for my grandchildren!!!)
I almost dont want to ask, but il do it.... Dead soon?? What do you mean??

Or... learn anything you want at a rate 10xs faster than any other generation could.
It would be a blessing if most of our current world leaders were replaced by more intelligent and responsible people.

that's the reality of our generation :)
