Hello Steemians,
There is always this issue of plagiarism in every literary community. The steemit community, especially, frowns on it totally. "Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. All published and unpublished material, whether in manuscript, printed or electronic form, is covered under this definition." source

Newcomers, like myself, should as much as possible cite sources for texts or images they use of which they are not the originators. But why concern ourselves with plagiarism at all? Why does it matter? "Plagiarism is a breach of academic integrity. It is a principle of intellectual honesty that all members of the academic community should acknowledge their debt to the originators of the ideas, words, and data which form the basis for their own work" Source.
All writers across the globe would agree that there is a lot of work involved in producing something original. Thus, using other people's work without acknowledging them is like stealing from them. In some cases, it is considered fraud and the culprits punished by the law.

Plagiarism can be of different forms

TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

  • Copy-and-paste plagiarism
"Copy-and-paste plagiarism, also known as direct plagiarism, means copying a passage from a source without a citation." Source
This form of plagiarism I would say is common among students or people in academia. Where people will just search for articles online, copy( ctrl+C) and paste( ctrl+V), and present them as assignments, thesis or articles of their own to score marks for their GPA's.

  • Mosaic plagiarism
This can be explained as hopping from one literary piece to another copying/using various phrases, passages and ideas to add to your work without citing references/acknowledging. It is like to say your work will be like a form of patched work or "mosaic" of other people's works.

  • Self-plagiarism
This can be explained as re-using parts of your own works in subsequent ones without stating or referencing back to those previous works. This might not incriminate you because it's your own work but your readers will be expecting that you present new materials or content to them.

  • Global plagiarism
This can be explained as passing off a whole literary piece as your own. This is the worst form of plagiarism there is. This is actually a serious crime and in the steemit community this could seriously damage your reputation.

Most people on steem, for the sake of making money, will tend to engage in if not all but some of the types of plagiarism I have stated above. This will annoy a lot of people and instead of making you more money will instead decrease your chances of making any money at all .
In the Steemit community there are code of ethics the govern all the post in the community. You can read the complete Etiquette Guide here. I have read and understood the Steemit etiquette on Steemit community and will do my best to embrace them.
Thank you so much for reading my post and stay tuned for more interesting pieces from me.
